This is the Philips Azur GC4890/02 Steam Iron, which was awarded “Best Small Home Appliance in 2011” by “Which?” This iron has some great features and an equally impressive design. It will make your ironing chores much easier and less of a hassle.

Design

The Philips Azur GC4890/02 Steam Iron is quite a stylish appliance; it has an all black body with red buttons. All the controls on this iron are clear and easy to read. The Philips Azur GC4890/02 Steam Iron has 350ml capacity water tank, which is large enough to be able to do a weeks load of ironing without having to refill in-between. The water tank is transparent on the side, so you can see how much water is left. This will save you having to swing your iron around to judge how much water is left inside. The water tank can be quite fiddly to use but it has a seal to stop water leaking out of the back. This Philips Azur GC4890/02 Steam Iron is very heavy, weighing 1.6kg empty so imagine the weight of a full tank. This iron is also very large; therefore make sure you check the dimension before buying this product to ensure that you can accommodate this iron in your home. The cable length is 2.5 metres long, which will give you plenty of slack when using this iron.

Features

The Philips Azur GC4890/02 Steam Iron has an incredibly 2,600 watts of power. So it heats up very quick and has a very powerful performance. This iron is very easy to use, all you have to do is plug it in, switch it on, and then turn the control disc under the handle to the type of material that you’re ironing. And the temperature light will indicate when the iron has reached the correct heat. The Iron plate is designed with a pointed head and has strategically placed steam holes, so you can easily reach all them hard to reach areas. The cord length is very generous and can be swiveled 360 degrees, making the movement of the iron easier. The Philips Azur GC4890/02 Steam Iron has a tough anodilium soleplate, which is scratch resistant and offers effortless gliding on all types of fabrics. One of the best features on this Philips Azur GC4890/02 Steam Iron is that it can take non-filtered tap water. As this iron is fitted with a calc clean function, which removes limescale and impurities on your iron. This only needs to be done periodically and instructions are provided. Regular calc cleaning is very important to keep your iron performing with an optimal amount of steam, especially if you are using hard water from the tap to fill your iron. Finally the Philips Azur GC4890/02 Steam Iron is also fitted with a drip stop, so there will be no water left on your clothes when steaming on a low setting.

Performance

The Philips Azur GC4890/02 Steam Iron works brilliantly. It is powerful enough to iron out creases on the toughest of fabrics including curtains and jackets. Ironing your clothes is very easy with this iron and all the controls are very straightforward. This iron will heat up very quick and will generate steam in under a minute. The only issue we found with the Philips Azur GC4890/02 Steam Iron is that it’s very loud.
